The EU’s Role in the Middle East Peace Process: Diplomatic Pathways for a Sustainable Resolution
14 November 2024- 15 November 2024 | Conference | English | BrusselsThe Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been one of the most enduring and complex disputes in modern history, significantly affecting regional stability and international relations. The European Union has long been a pivotal player in efforts to mediate and resolve this conflict, advocating for a two-state solution and providing substantial political, economic, and humanitarian support to the peace process. However, the path to a lasting peace remains fraught with challenges, necessitating renewed efforts and strategies.
The recent escalation of violence, particularly the attacks on October 7th and the war in Gaza, has underscored the urgency and complexity of achieving a sustainable resolution. These events have resulted in significant loss of life, extensive destruction, and deepened mistrust between the parties.
The EU’s response to these developments and its role in mitigating the conflict’s impact are critical areas are to be examined and discussed in the third annual meeting co-organised by the IEMed and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Regional Program Political Dialogue South MED gathering in Brussels former Ambassadors of EU member states posted in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
